After the meeting, India’s Ambassador to the United Nations TS Thirumurthy tweeted, “External forces cannot be allowed to violate the sovereignty of Syria.” The world cannot ignore the political process going on there.

The lack of mutual trust in the political system is creating a big problem. Terrorism can benefit from this only. The 12th report of the UN Secretary-General raises concerns over the situation in Syria.

It is said that there are about 11,000 IS terrorists in north-eastern Syria. Those who are waiting for a chance to get organized and start activities.

India warns UN Security Council: Among these terrorists are 5000 Syrians, 1600 Iraqis, 1700 foreign fighters, and 2500 who have no information about citizenship.

Jair Pederson, the UN Special Envoy on Syria, also said that peace efforts in Syria require constructive international efforts.

According to the United Nations Office on Humanitarian Conditions, about 80 percent of the population in Syria is living below the poverty line.

These people are facing many problems such as danger, instability, illegal detention, kidnapping. There are many groups occupying all these areas. A coordinated international effort is needed to get Syria out of this.

Welcome to the political process in Libya

India has welcomed the start of the political process in Libya, a ruined North African country.

Chairing the UN Security Council’s Committee on Sanctions on Libya, India’s Ambassador TS Tirumurthy welcomed the Interim Executive Authority set up there.

This authority has a representation of all groups in the country. Thirumurthy tweeted- We strongly support the political process started in Libya.

It is noteworthy that elections are proposed in Libya on 24 December. A new government will be chosen in that.
