India Will Become A Temporary Member Of UNSC
India will become a temporary member of UNSC for the eighth time, India’s membership will be for two years from January 1.
On Friday, India will become the temporary member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the world’s top deciding body of the world’s largest panchayat. India’s membership will be for two years from January 1, 2021.
India will be chairman of the UN Security Council for one month in August.
India will become the temporary member of the UNSC for the eighth time and according to the information given by the UN, will also be the President of the Council for a month in August 2021.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs says that India will use this term to pursue the unfinished agenda of reform in the United Nations.
Leaving China, four permanent members have expressed their desire to work with India.
Four of the five permanent members of the UNSC (US, Russia, UK, and France) have already welcomed India’s election and expressed their willingness to work with India.
Apart from India, Mexico, Ireland and Norway have also become temporary members for two years.
Strengthening UNSC against terrorism is India’s priority
Sources say that strengthening the global alliance against terrorism will be India’s priority, but given the current environment, India will play a more positive role in global cooperation against Corona.

India first became a temporary member of UNSC in 1950-51
According to the information given by Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava, India first became a temporary member of UNSC in 1950-51.
India was then elected as a provisional member in 1967-68, then in 1972-73, 1977-78, 1984-85, 1991-92, and 2011-12.
In all its tenure, India has worked specifically for the interests of developing countries and for establishing peace in different parts of the world.
The last time (2011-12) when India became a provisional member was when the Indian Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri led the Indian contingent.
On Wednesday, he also congratulated PR UN Trinity, India’s current representative in the UN, for this new responsibility.
India will work to fulfill the unfinished agenda of reform of the United Nations.
On the other hand, Trinity has already made it clear that India will also use this term to fulfill the unfinished agenda of reform in the United Nations.
In recent months, Indian PM Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S.K. Jaishankar has raised the issue of UNSC reform on every international platform.
Even while addressing the UN session in September 2020, PM Modi strongly advocated reform in UNSC.
Of the five UNSC members, only China does not support making India a permanent member. All other countries are ready for this.
