Indian women’s hockey team out of World Cup, Spain beat by one goal: Women’s Hockey World Cup.
The Indian women’s hockey team crashed out of the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup title race after a 0-1 loss to co-hosts Spain in a crossover match.
There was a tough fight between the two teams for three quarters, but just 3 minutes before the end of the scheduled time, Marta Segu scored a goal on the rebound to take India out of the title race.
Like the entire tournament, in the crossover match too, the Indian team had to bear the brunt of not converting a penalty corner into a goal.
India got 4 penalty corners against Spain’s 3, but the team could not convert any of them into a goal. The team could not win a single match in the entire tournament.
India got the first penalty corner in the 8th minute, but the Indian players failed to penetrate Spain’s defense.
In the first quarter, there was hesitation in the game of both teams and both teams made mistakes during this period. During this, there were very few chances of scoring goals.
Spain then tried to dominate and put pressure on India’s defense. Indian captain and goalkeeper Savita meanwhile made some good defenses.

In the fourth and final quarter, both the teams got chances in the very beginning. Spain’s Sara Barrios just had to hit Savita in front of Golmukh, but she failed to do so.
Spain’s defense then thwarted India’s attempt. Jimenez once again got a chance to score but once again Savita was standing in front of him as a wall.
Monica made some good moves but the team did not get success in scoring.
Segu then gave Spain the lead 3 minutes before the end of the scheduled time. Klara Wykart’s shot was blocked by Savita, but on the rebound, Segu drove the ball into the goal.
The last few minutes were a lot of pressure for Spain. Garcia was shown the yellow card and Segu was shown the green card, forcing the team to play with 9 players.
Despite being 2 players more, the Indian team failed to take advantage of the opportunity and got out of the medal race.
India will now take on Canada in the ninth to 16th place classification match here on Tuesday.
