Investigation Report Of Violence At Wistron Plant: Karnataka

Investigation report of violence at Wistron plant will come in two days, employees were furious due to non-payment of salary.

Karnataka Labor Minister Shivaram Hebbar said on Wednesday that investigations into the recent violence at the Wistron iPhone production plant are ongoing and an investigation report is expected in a day or two.

He hoped that work would start in the factory soon as the Center is also involved in resolving the issues. Hebbar stressed that the government was available to protect the interests of workers.

He said that such incidents could adversely affect investment and employment generation prospects in the state. Wistron is a Taiwanese producer contracted to carp iPhone manufacturer Apple.

Wistron has informed the Taiwan Stock Exchange that the December 12 violence at the Narasapura production plant in Kolar district did not cause any physical damage to large manufacturing equipment and warehouses.

It has estimated an initial loss of between 100 and 200 million Taiwanese dollars, which is about Rs 52 crore in Indian currency.

In the initial reports, the loss was estimated at around Rs 437 crore, quoting a complaint from the company officials at the local police station.

The state labor minister said, ‘There is no labor union as of now. The workers showed immaturity and the company should have also paid attention to the contractor.

We will get accurate information in a couple of days about how much the workers were paid and how much. ‘ He said that the company has talked about trying to start the factory in 15 days.

Telangana MLA acquires German citizenship: Center tells High Court

The central government on Wednesday informed the Telangana High Court that the ruling TRS MLA Ramesh Chennamaneni is a German citizen and holds the passport of that country.

The MLA from Vemulawada constituency had earlier challenged the order of the Union Home Ministry, stating that he is not a citizen of India.

The High Court then last month directed the Center to obtain information through the Indian Embassy in Germany to digest whether Ramesh was holding a German passport/citizenship.

The MLA was also asked to file an affidavit to disclose and attach details relating to the surrender of his German passport with proof of his German citizenship being relinquished.

When the matter came up for hearing on Wednesday, the Assistant Solicitor General (ASG), through a memorandum with related documents.

He informed the court that Ramesh is a German citizen as of today and that his German passport will be renewed in 2023.
