Ex-Jammu and Kashmir bureaucrat reached Supreme Court against cancellation of lights
Mohammad Safi Pandit, former Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, has reached the Supreme Court against the decision of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court to cancel all the allocations under the Roshni Act.
The High Court in its order on October 9, termed the Roshni Act illegal and unconstitutional, and ordered a CBI inquiry into the matter, canceling the land allotment under it.
The name of Mohammad Safi Pandit and his wife has also come in the list of beneficiaries of the Roshni Act issued by the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir.
Giving information here, a 1969 batch IAS officer said that he has full faith in the judiciary and hopes that the Supreme Court will hear his side soon.
He said he wanted to make it clear that he was living legally on his mother-in-law’s land.
He said that after the recent decisions of the High Court, his and his wife’s name have been included in the list and all the beneficiaries are being shown wrongly from this list. This list is not correct.
He told that this land was purchased by his mother-in-law in 1953 from a retired judge and was allotted to him by the then Maharaj of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir after paying a fixed premium.
The transfer of this land was approved by the state government and the lease was extended till 2016.
The property rights were given to us after paying the fixed fees through the Roshni Act and thereafter there was no need to extend the lease of the land.
He claimed that the High Court gave the verdict without hearing him. He and his wife are legal allottees of this land and the government has allotted them land for housing.
