Meanwhile, talks between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping will take place on Thursday.

Washington and Beijing will have their first talks in four months after China’s claims on Taiwan, according to a US official.

Planned talks between the two leaders have been going on for weeks. But the prospect of a visit to Taiwan by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the top Congressional Democrat, and second-ranked presidential heiress, has sparked renewed tension in complicated ties.
