In Karnataka’s capital Bengaluru, commuters will now be able to experience a ride in electric buses. State Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai flagged off the first batch of electric buses in the city on Monday.
Manufactured by JBM Auto, these buses will run under the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).
Out of the first batch of 40 electric buses delivered by JBM Auto to BMTC, 25 such electric buses were flagged off on Monday.
The company said that 50 more electric buses will be delivered in the coming months. The company had earlier committed to supplying 90 electric buses to BMTC.

JBM said that the JBM ECO-Life electric buses will run under the Metro feeder services in the Smart City initiative.

These buses will be operated from Kengeri, Yesvantpur, and KR Puram bus depots.

The electric bus developed by JBM Auto is able to cover a distance covers 70 km on a single charge with a maximum speed of 120 kmph.
Given that non-AC buses have a seating capacity of 33 passengers and one driver. JBM said these buses are equipped with six Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (NMC) battery packs.
