Kerala Gold Smuggling Case, Andhra Pradesh CID Conduct Raid

Kerala gold smuggling case: court issues non-bailable warrant against four absconding accused. Gold smuggling cases in Kerala are getting a new twist every day. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today informed the special NIA court in Kochi that, ‘absconding accused Fazil Farid, Rabins Hameed, Siddikul Akbar, and Ahmed Kutty are in the UAE.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) further stated that, therefore, a non-bailable warrant against him has been obtained from the court. Steps have been taken to issue blue notices against them through Interpol to secure them for investigation.

Two people have been arrested

It is worth noting that in this case, on July 3 last month, NIA arrested two more accused in the case related to gold smuggling. The NIA at that time arrested Shafiq (31), resident of Palakkad district in Kerala and Sharafudin (38), resident of Malappuram.

Meanwhile, in Andhra Pradesh, the CID on Friday raided the residence of former chairman of APCO (State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society) Gujjala Srinivasulu in Khajipet. During this period, 3 kg gold, 2 kg silver, cash worth more than Rs 1 crore, and documents of property have been seized from his residence.

 

 

 

It was alleged that Srinivasulu misused government funds and subsidies to weavers in the name of weavers’ cooperatives. It was further alleged that he committed many irregularities in the supply of clothes for school children, police, and sanitary staff uniforms. Instead of handloom fabrics, polyester fabrics produced by power looms were supplied in Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Naidu.
