Maharashtra Politics: 18 Congress councilors of Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation included in NCP.

On Wednesday, 18 Congress councilors including Imran Ali Mohammed Khan, Deputy Mayor of Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation, joined the Nationalist Congress Party in Thane district of Maharashtra.

During this period the state Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and state NCP chief and Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad were also present there.

Explain that this incident is considered important because Congress and NCP are part of the Shiv Sena-led government of the state.

Former Meera-Bhayander mayor Nirmala Sawale and opposition leader Liaquat Sheikh also attended the party at the function at YB Chavan Center here.

The Congress won 47 seats in the Bhiwandi-Nizampur municipal elections last year and won a majority in the 90-member Civic House.

However, due to cross-voting, the party had reportedly lost the post of the mayor to Konark Vikas Aghadi candidate Pratibha Vilas Patil.

Earlier this year, five Shiv Sena councilors from Partner in the Ahmednagar district joined the NCP, creating a rift within the ruling party. However, the councilors later returned to the Shiv Sena.
