First of all Lord Shankar was married to Mata Sati. Sati’s father Daksha was not in favor of this marriage, but King Daksha got his daughter Sati married to Lord Shankar at the behest of father Brahma.

Once King Daksha insulted Lord Shankar by not inviting him to the Yagya. Due to this Mother Sati committed self-immolation by jumping into the Yagya, being sad and angry.

2. After this incident, Lord Shiva got engrossed in severe penance.

Mother Sati was born in the form of Mother Parvati at the place of Parvatraj Himalaya. According to religious beliefs, there used to be a terror of the demon Tarakasura during that time.

It was a boon that the killing of Tarakasura is possible only by the son of Lord Shiva.

But Lord Shiva was engrossed in penance, for which all the gods planned the marriage of Lord Shiva and sent Kamdev to dissolve Bholenath’s penance, but Kamdev himself was consumed.

3. Lord Shiva agreed to marry Mother Parvati at the great request of all the gods. Lord Shiva reached Mata Parvati’s place in a procession.
