Major accident averted: 5 kg IED recovered to target security forces on Srinagar highway.
The vigilance and strong intelligence of the security forces once again averted a major accident in the Kashmir Valley.
Terrorists had planted an IED in the Wanpore area on the Srinagar highway to target the security forces.
Before the terrorists succeed in their plot, the intelligence systems of the security forces informed them about this conspiracy.
During the search operation, a 5 kg IED planted on the roadside was recovered, it was demolished on the spot.
According to the information received from the police, in the early hours of today, the Pulwama Police got information that some terrorists are trying to target the security forces by blasting IEDs.
As soon as the information was received, a team of Pulwama Police, Army’s 50 RR, and BSF’s 183 Battalion reached the Srinagar Wanpora area and started searching for the IED laid on the road.
The security forces noticed that the soil near the main road was soft as if it had just been dug up and sealed.
When the equipment was checked, it was confirmed that the IED has been laid here.
The security forces immediately swung into action, stopped the movement of vehicles on the Srinagar Wanpora road, and informed the bomb disposal squad.
Shortly after, the Bomb Disposal Squad reached there and they took out the IED by digging the soil. The IED weighed around five kg and was kept in a container.
The security forces said that if the terrorists were successful in their plan and the security forces passing through this route would have come under its grip.
Then there would have been a lot of loss of life and property.
The IED could not be removed, so the security forces secured the entire area and made the IED inactive there.
At the same time, the police presence on the spot has also caught some areas of the surrounding areas for questioning. A major accident was averted due to timely action, the police said.
