Manoj Sinha, BJP’s 10th Politician From UP, Appointed Governor

Manoj Sinha, BJP’s 10th politician from Uttar Pradesh, who holds the post of Governor. 61-year-old former Union Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha has been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

Following the resignation of Lieutenant Governor (LG) Girish Chandra Murmu as soon as the completion of one year of Article 370.  Surprised by Murmu’s sudden resignation, the appointment of Manoj Sinha has surprised everyone, as there was no mention of his name till late Wednesday night.

Former Union Home Secretary Rajiv Maharishi, former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Ashok Prasad, Lt General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain and former Jammu and Kashmir Security Advisor K Vijay Kumar were being named as the next Lt. Governor.

However, Sinha, who is called Vikas Purush in Ghazipur, is the 10th BJP politician from Uttar Pradesh, who holds the post of Governor. Before this, these BJP leaders have held this position.

Kalraj Mishra: Kalraj Mishra, once considered the Brahmin face of the party in Uttar Pradesh, became the Governor of Himachal Pradesh in 2019. Presently is the Governor of Rajasthan.

Satyapal Malik: Became the governor of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2018. Presently, the Governor of Goa holds the post. Has also been the Governor of Bihar. Malik, who hails from Baghpat in western Uttar Pradesh, once joined the Janata Dal and then the SP. The BJP was joined immediately before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Baby Rani Maurya: Governor of Uttarakhand. In 1995, the first woman mayor of Agra was elected.

Arif Muhammad Khan: Arif Muhammad Khan is the Governor of Kerala, also from Uttar Pradesh. Arif, formerly a Congress leader and a Union Minister in the Congress government, later joined the BJP.

Fagu Chauhan: Governor of Bihar. He has held ministerial posts in the BJP government of Uttar Pradesh many times.

Brigadier BD Mishra (Retd): BD Mishra of Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh is the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.

Kalyan Singh: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh also became the Governor of Rajasthan and completed his term last year.

Kesari Nath Tripathi: Former Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kesri Nath Tripathi was made the Governor of West Bengal in 2014. He was retired last year.

Lalji Tandon: Last month, veteran BJP leader Lalji Tandon of Uttar Pradesh, who bid farewell to the world, became the Governor of Bihar and then Madhya Pradesh. He was a cabinet minister in all BJP governments in Uttar Pradesh. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari is known for his close relations with Vajpayee. He is also called the architect of Lucknow in political circles.
