The hijab controversy in Karnataka had just settled down and now the issue of Namazi Topi vs Saffron Gamcha has gained momentum in the state.

A section of Hindu employees of state-owned Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has been objecting to Muslim drivers, conductors, and others wearing prayer caps.

Not only this, but in protest against this, now they are doing duty by putting saffron garlands.

Hindu employees objected.

Hindu employees objected to the wearing of caps by their Muslim colleagues, saying it was also in violation of the uniform rules laid down by the BMTC. BMTC has fixed uniforms for its employees.

Muslim employees adamant about the insistence

However, Muslim employees wearing Namazi caps while on duty have categorically refused to remove them.

This has prompted Hindu employees to don saffron gamchas in retaliation. He has also formed an association by the name of ‘Kesari Employees Union’.

The decision was taken to put on saffron garlands.

The aim is to enforce strict uniform rules in BMTC and avoid wearing caps.

Sources said that around 1,500 employees are registered with the association and they have decided to wear saffron gamchas at the workplace till the ban on the prayer cap during duty hours is not imposed.

BMTC’s dress code similar to the police department

Meanwhile, BMTC vice-chairman MR Venkatesh said that he came to know about the situation only when he saw it in the media. He requested the media not to give importance to this news.

He said that BMTC has the same dress code as the police department. Employees have to follow its rules.

They have to be disciplined. Regarding the formation of an employee union, he said that it will not be encouraged and legal action will be taken.
