Opinion Of Experts On The Exercise Of Controlling Digital Media

Opinion of experts on the exercise of controlling digital media, what is the government’s affidavit. Government regulation is being discussed to control arbitrary content on various digital platforms. In such a situation, first of all, we need to find the exact definition of digital media.

In the process, views expressed on social media platforms have to be shifted away from digital media. Any media institution, whatever format, print, electronic or digital, cannot run by just one person, it is teamwork.

In such a situation, questions are raised on the government’s intent on an affidavit given by the government in the Supreme Court. If the government believes that its concern is more towards the web news portal, channel, or YouTube channel.

The government system believes that such a channel can be started without any registration or permission. These can harm national sovereignty in a dangerous way.

The government said in the court that if the court wants to regulate the media, it should start with digital media and not mainstream media ie print or electronic. There are many things in the government affidavit that question the government’s understanding.

The opinion of experts: For example, in affidavits, comparative studies of digital media with print and electronic media have tried to present the picture that print media has only access to areas where it is available or TV has access to the languages in which they are broadcast.

The affidavit states that both print and electronic are officially regulated, for which there are many laws.

The government, in its affidavit, has not explained the status of its web portal, apps, YouTube channel, Facebook page by considering newspapers and TV as merely present in their original format, whether it has any problem with such a web channel or not.

In response to a written question in Parliament by the government, it has come out that it intends to change the Information Technology Intermediate Guidelines Rules 2011 which will try to make other related mediums like Google, Facebook, Twitter more responsible.

In such a situation, it seems that somewhere there is a need to regulate the channels which are basically present in the web version, whether it is a YouTube channel or digital web portal. The big danger is that it is connected to you all the time through a gamechanger device such as a smartphone. This is more its strength.

It is also right for the government to be concerned in a country like India with about 63 crore smartphone users. It needs to be understood here that on millions of Facebook accounts, people are keeping their personal, political, social, and extravagant views indiscriminately.

The opinion of experts: The number of YouTube channels is steadily increasing. At a time when a platform like Twitter can hide the tweet of US President Donald Trump, the world’s most powerful ruler, a country like India needs to watch this medium mature with patience.

Recently, in his address to the United Nations, India has considered India as a strong base in the digital race, so the need is to adopt it openly.

The problems the government has mentioned in the affidavit can also be dealt with under the current laws. The biggest question is whether the Internet, which is known for freedom of thought and new ideas, can also be regulated.
