Pranab Mukherjee autobiography: Modi Earned PM’s Post. Former President Pranab Mukherjee wrote in his autobiography, Modi’s hard-earned Prime Minister’s post.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee has laid bare his experiences of working with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the final part of his autobiography, ‘The Presidential Years, 2012-2017’.

He told how the working of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was different from former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. In 2014, Pranab termed the BJP’s massive victory under Modi’s leadership as the victory of the people.

While clarifying the basic difference between Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Pranab said that Manmohan Singh was made Prime Minister by Sonia Gandhi.

Whereas UPA constituents had elected Sonia Gandhi as the Prime Minister.

At the same time, Modi is basically a politician, whom the BJP chose as its prime ministerial candidate before starting the election campaign. According to him, Modi achieved the post of Prime Minister by earning himself.

Modi used to come for advice as PM but Manmohan never came

According to Pranab, who was the President of both Modi and Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister, Modi as Prime Minister used to come to him for advice on various issues and he too did not hesitate to advise him.

Prime Minister Modi often did not agree with his advice. But this process never stopped. At the same time, despite being a long-time ally in the government and the party.

Manmohan Singh never came to consult him on any issue. According to Pranab, Manmohan had come to know that the President can work only on the advice of the Cabinet.

Credited Modi for beginning a new tradition in foreign diplomacy

Describing Prime Minister Modi as understanding the complexities of foreign policy very soon, Pranab Mukherjee said that he immediately agreed to the decision to invite all the heads of SAARC countries.

He also invited the then Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif to the 2014 swearing-in ceremony. And was advised to make extensive arrangements for their security.

Mukherjee credited Modi as Prime Minister to the introduction of a new tradition in foreign diplomacy. Under this, before the President’s foreign visit.

Prime Minister Modi himself used to come to him to discuss the issues related to the country, and later a letter was sent which contained the basic facts on bilateral relations with the country concerned.

Modi’s victory in the 2014 general election was declared a victory of the public

Describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s victory in 2014 as a real victory for the people, Pranab Mukherjee admitted in his autobiography that even before the election he was not confident of getting a clear majority for the BJP.

At that time only Piyush Goyal claimed that the BJP could get at least 265 seats which could reach 280. According to Pranab Mukherjee, he could not understand the reason behind this confidence of Piyush Goyal.

But the details of Modi’s election campaign that Piyush Goyal showed him were very carefully prepared. Hard work was done for him.

According to Mukherjee, Modi’s preparations and his hard work in getting an overwhelming majority to the BJP impressed him.

On the other hand, no Congress leader claimed a clear majority to the UPA or Congress before the election. Mukherjee also praised Prime Minister Modi for keeping allies together despite getting a clear majority.

Congress could not stay in any part of the country in front of BJP

According to Mukherjee, in the 2014 general elections, Congress could not stay in any part of the country in front of BJP under Modi’s leadership and was reduced to just 44 seats.

He recalled the speech given at the Republic Day celebrations in the same year in reference to the clear majority that the BJP had, in which he appealed to the public to give a clear majority to any party.

According to him, people can say that the voters gave Narendra Modi a clear majority to form the government, considering his suggestion
