People took to the streets after former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country. The protesters are also against the election of Ranil Wickremesinghe as the President.

Protesters have occupied several government buildings. The protesting people are also demanding the resignation of Ranil.

On the other hand, the Sri Lankan army has started action against the protesters.

The President’s Secretariat is being forcibly evacuated from the possession of the protesters. Protesters had occupied the President’s Secretariat for the past few days.

During the evacuation of the secretariat, there was also a clash between the protesters and the security forces. The protesters are being driven out of the secretariat.

Police said that the army and police have launched an operation to clear the secretariat. The police officer said that no one has the right to occupy the secretariat.

America expressed concern.

US Ambassador to Colombo Julie Chun has expressed concern over the action taken by the Sri Lankan authorities against the protesters in Galle Face at midnight.

Chun urged the authorities to exercise restraint and provide immediate medical care to the injured.

“Extremely concerned about the action taken against protesters in Galle Face at midnight,” Chung tweeted.
