Russia-Ukraine Conflict: Russia invites the UN, and Red Cross to participate in the investigation of the Ukrainian military attack. 

Russia has invited UN and Red Cross experts to participate in the investigation of a Ukrainian military attack on a pre-trial detention center near Olenivka in the Donbas region.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday that 53 Ukrainian prisoners of war were killed in the attack.

“In order to conduct an objective investigation into the attack on the pre-trial detention center in Yelenovka, which resulted in the death of a large number of Ukrainian prisoners of war.”

The Russian Federation officially On Friday morning invited the UN, and Red Cross to participate in the investigation of the Ukrainian military attack. 

The Russian media quoted the ministry on Friday as saying “40 Ukrainian prisoners of war were killed and 75 were wounded.”

Ukrainian troops opened fire with US-supplied High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMAR) at the Olenivka Detention Center, which hosts Ukraine’s prisoners of war.

According to an update from the DPR Territorial Defense, the death toll from the attack has reached 53, and the number of injured has crossed 130.

The ministry called the Ukrainian attack a “major provocation” aimed at intimidating Ukrainian soldiers thinking of surrendering.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Friday offered its support for the evacuation of the wounded.

UN spokesman Farhan Haq said on Saturday that the United Nations was ready to investigate the Olenivka shelling.

DPR chief Denis Pushilin said Friday that the shelling at the detention center was premeditated and launched by militants imprisoned there.

Especially those from the nationalist Azov battalion began to testify about the Kyiv regime. Recently, Ukraine shelled an important bridge in Kherson, closing it to traffic.

President Zelensky of Ukraine promised to rebuild the Antonivsky Bridge in the Russian-occupied Kherson region after it was torn down by Ukrainian forces.

Antonivsky Bridge is the only bridge in the city across the Kherson river.

Kirill Stremosov, deputy head of the Russian-appointed city administration, told the news agency that it was closed to traffic after the attack.

The Ukrainian military, buoyed by long-range artillery deliveries of Western supplies, has withdrawn into the southern Kherson region a day after Ukraine and Russia agreed on a grain deal in recent weeks.

The attack came a day after Ukraine and Russian ministers signed an agreement in Istanbul by the United Nations and Turkey, aimed at easing the global food crisis caused by the war, to export grain from Ukrainian Black Sea ports.

On 24 February, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine after the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics requested help to defend themselves.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the special operation was targeting only Ukrainian military infrastructure and that the civilian population was not in danger.
