SC orders Center in killing case of Kerala fishermen, compensation to victims’ families.

The bench headed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on Friday said that the aggrieved party should be compensated in the case and the Center should ensure this.

A bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde and Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian said that the apex court will provide compensation to the families of the deceased fishermen.

The bench said that a week after the compensation amount is deposited, the court’s plea will be heard in the court, appealing for the closure of the case against Italian sailors.

In fact, the central government has said that the case against the two Italian marines in the fisherman’s murder case should be closed.

Earlier in the hearing, the court had said that it would not close the case without hearing the relatives of the deceased and should be given adequate compensation.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, on behalf of the Central Government in the Supreme Court, had said that the relatives of the deceased have been contacted and they have been given outstanding compensation.

SC orders Center in killing case: On August 7 last year, he said that he would not pass any order until he heard the aggrieved side in the Kerala fishermen murder case.

Significantly, on 15 February 2012 two Italian marines, Salvatore Girone and Massimiliano Latorre are accused of killing Kerala fishermen.

The two Italian marines were aboard the Italian oil tanker MV Enrica Lexie and the fishermen from Kerala were aboard the Special Economic Zone of India. The Supreme Court allowed them to visit their country with conditions.
