Six years jail for the culprit in the Kalamassery bus burning case in Kerala.

A special NIA court in Ernakulam, Kerala has sentenced a man to six years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1,60,000 for the Kalamassery bus burning case.

The investigating agency official said that KA Anoop, a resident of Ernakulam, who fled the country after committing the crime in 2005, was arrested in April 2016.

The case was registered in September 2005 at Kalamassery police station.

T Nazeer and others had hijacked and torched a Tamil Nadu government bus running between Ernakulam and Salem in support of the demand for the release of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Abdul Nasser.

Six years jail for the culprit: Nasser was lodged in Coimbatore jail at that time.

The NIA registered the case in 2010 and filed a charge sheet against 13 accused, including Anoop, under sections of the IMD and the PDPP Act and the UA (P) Act.

A special NIA court on Monday sentenced Anoop to different charges on different charges. All the sentences will run concurrently. The trial is going on against the other accused.

Zika Virus Update: Another case of Zika virus has surfaced in Kerala, with 38 people infected so far.

Another new case of the Zika virus has been reported in Kerala. So far 38 cases of this infection have been reported in the state after another person was found infected with the Zika virus.

State Health Minister Veena George gave this information on Tuesday.

Health Minister Veena George said in a statement that a 49-year-old woman in Kulathur, Thiruvananthapuram was found to be infected with Zika after being tested for Zika virus.

According to him, tests were conducted in this regard at the Viral Laboratory of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.

The minister said that the health of all the infected is satisfactory at present and eight patients are under treatment.
