Worship and havan were organized as a major religious gathering on Basant Panchami for the first time on Tuesday after the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act came into force.

This temple holds great importance for Kashmiri Pandits mythologically, religiously, socially, and culturally.

In the courtyard of this Shitalnath Bhairav ​​temple symbolizing the faith of Kashmiri Pandits, the strategy of many political and social movements of Kashmiri Pandits in the Kashmir Valley has been made in the pre-1990 Valley.

Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru has addressed the people in this temple complex. This temple was completely deserted after Kashmiri Pandits fled the valley during the period of terrorism.

In 2010, the temple was reopened by the Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti for worship. Since then, the temple has been regularly worshiped.

However, the floods of 2014 and the subsequent law and order situation in Kashmir has affected major religious gatherings at Sheetal Nath Temple.

After the implementation of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, on Tuesday, for the first time, Puja and Havan were organized on Basant Panchami.

A large number of Kashmiri Pandit devotees participated in this religious gathering organized by the Shitalnath Bhairav ​​Ashram Committee.

Local Kashmiri Muslims also appeared to be part of the arrangements for worship in the temple.

Here, let us tell you that thousands of temples in Kashmir were deserted after Kashmiri Pandits and later damaged. Kabbas were later deposited on the lands of some temples.

To free the land of temples from encroachment:

Junaid Azim Mattoo, the mayor of Srinagar also reached the temple to attend the puja.

After visiting Shitalnath Bhairav ​​and receiving the prasad, he said that this temple is not just of Kashmiri Pandits, it is the heritage of our centuries-old ancient civilization.

It is a symbol of Kashmiriyat, its protection is our responsibility. We will preserve and develop all the temples in Srinagar.

He will free their lands from encroachment. We have identified 30 temples in Srinagar, which will be renovated this year on a priority basis.

He said that the school building located in the Shitalnath temple complex would also be repaired. Apart from this, a Yatri Niwas will also be built here and for this, the concerned officials have been instructed to prepare a DPR.

It is expected that there will be a large religious gathering as before:

Upendra Handu, a member of the Shithnath Bhairav ​​Ashram Committee, said that before 1990, there used to be a lot of activity on Basant Panchami. This movement ended due to terrorism.

Now the situation has improved again here, so we hope that in the next few years, there will be a big religious gathering here again as before.
