Supreme Court Reprimands Delhi Police in Hate Speech Case, Asks Officers to Report Investigation.

The Supreme Court on Friday requested reports from officers investigating the case in which Delhi police made “clear progress” in investigating incidents of hate speech in the capital’s religious communities in 2021.

A contempt motion has been filed to punish Delhi and Uttarakhand police chiefs for alleged inaction in cases of violation of Supreme Court rulings in the Tehseen Poonawalla case.

In his plea, the activist filed a lawsuit against senior police officials for failing to act on the matter in accordance with regulatory guidelines to prevent hate speech and hanging.

The petition says speeches were released shortly after the incident, but Uttarakhand Police and Delhi Police have yet to take action against the perpetrators.

The petition alleges that hate speech was given during the ‘Dharam Sansad’ held in Haridwar from December 17 to 19, 2021, and in Delhi on December 19, 2021.
