Sustainable tourism is important for employment generation in J&K, Ladakh: Dr. Farooq Abdullah.

NC President and MP Dr. Farooq Abdullah said on Saturday that sustainable tourism can be important for employment generation, economic growth, and development in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh.

Abdullah was speaking in his presidential address at the National Meeting on Culture and Energy Conservation in Sonmarg.

Dr. Farooq dispelled the myths about Kashmir and said that the region is completely safe for tourists.

He said that Kashmir has camping, trekking, motorbiking, gondola, skiing, river rafting on one hand and cultural tourism on the other.

Farooq stressed the accumulation of renewable resources of energy to meet the ever-increasing demands of the country. He said that nature has a limit.

We cannot keep looting forests and other fuels. There will come a time when most of our fuel will run out. He said that sustainable development has long been accepted by the United Nations.

The future belongs to renewable energy and Jammu and Kashmir have a lot to offer on this front.

We have sunlight, wind, biomass, and rivers which hold immense potential to meet the future demands of the energy sector.

Dr. Farooq asked the tourism players to move towards green tourism by reducing their dependence on non-renewable sources of energy.

This will help protect the environment, glaciers, rivers, and air quality, he said. He also stressed the safety of laborers working in rail, road, and tunnel projects.

He said that the government is bound to ensure the safety of the workers. Private and public sector companies must have vital health care gadgets to deal with any incident at construction sites.

Complete the project by working in dual shifts:

Jammu Divisional Commissioner Dr. Raghav Langar, in a high-level meeting on Saturday, directed to complete the ongoing projects in the health sector under the Prime Minister’s Development Package on time.

He said that the construction agencies will have to complete all the projects within the stipulated time frame.

He said that in view of the possibility of the third wave of Covid, there is a need to work in dual shifts so that every project can be completed and it can be opened for patients.

He asked the Deputy Commissioners to hold regular meetings with the concerned officers. He inquired about the works going on in District Hospitals, Sub District Hospitals, Primary Aid Centers.

In the meeting, the concerned officers informed the Divisional Commissioner about each project in detail. He was told that most of the projects are on the verge of completion.

The Divisional Commissioner said that the completion of ongoing projects in the health sector is the priority of the government. He asked the officials to inform him about each project.
