Sustainable Tourism Is Important For Employment Generation

Sustainable tourism is important for employment generation in J&K, Ladakh: Dr. Farooq Abdullah.

NC President and MP Dr. Farooq Abdullah said on Saturday that sustainable tourism can be important for employment generation, economic growth, and development in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh.

Abdullah was speaking in his presidential address at the National Meeting on Culture and Energy Conservation in Sonmarg.

Dr. Farooq dispelled the myths about Kashmir and said that the region is completely safe for tourists.

He said that Kashmir has camping, trekking, motorbiking, gondola, skiing, river rafting on one hand and cultural tourism on the other.

Farooq stressed the accumulation of renewable resources of energy to meet the ever-increasing demands of the country. He said that nature has a limit.

We cannot keep looting forests and other fuels. There will come a time when most of our fuel will run out. He said that sustainable development has long been accepted by the United Nations.

The future belongs to renewable energy and Jammu and Kashmir have a lot to offer on this front.

We have sunlight, wind, biomass, and rivers which hold immense potential to meet the future demands of the energy sector.

Dr. Farooq asked the tourism players to move towards green tourism by reducing their dependence on non-renewable sources of energy.

This will help protect the environment, glaciers, rivers, and air quality, he said. He also stressed the safety of laborers working in rail, road, and tunnel projects.

He said that the government is bound to ensure the safety of the workers. Private and public sector companies must have vital health care gadgets to deal with any incident at construction sites.
