Ex-Kerala DGP gets interim bail in ISRO espionage case

The court on Friday granted interim bail to former Kerala Director General of Police Siby Mathews, who came under the scanner for his involvement in the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) espionage scandal.

The next hearing of the case will be on Tuesday. The CBI is investigating the conspiracy in connection with the 1994 ISRO espionage case.

Mathews was the head of the SIT set up to investigate the espionage case. Mathews is among the 18 people accused by the CBI of hatching a conspiracy in connection with the espionage case.

After getting information about this, Mathews had applied in the court for interim bail.

The CBI has charged the former DGP and 17 others for involvement in the criminal conspiracy, kidnapping and preparing forged evidence, etc.

This investigation related to the ISRO espionage case has started after the order of the Supreme Court on April 15.

The top court gave this order after the report of the high-level committee on the suspected role of the then-police officers in the espionage case.

ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan was made an accused in this espionage case. He was playing a major role in the project related to the development of the cryogenic engine.

The project was put on hold due to his being implicated in an espionage scandal. Two scientists and four others were accused of sending confidential documents related to India’s space program abroad in the case.
