Telangana government has taken a big decision for the Scheduled Tribes (ST) of the state.

The government has now increased the reservation for scheduled tribes in educational institutions and state government services.

The government has increased this reservation from 6 percent to 10 percent with immediate effect.

This reservation will be applicable in educational institutions and government jobs. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has taken this decision due to special circumstances.

Tribals (Scheduled Tribes) constitute 10 percent of the state’s population in Telangana.

About six years ago the Telangana state assembly passed a bill increasing reservation for tribals in the state. It was sent to the Central Government for the assent of the President.

Despite repeated pleas from the state government and the tribals, the Center had shelved the bill.

Telangana government’s big decision: The order was issued on Friday.

Disturbed by the apathetic attitude of the Centre, the Chief Minister had recently announced his decision that the TRS government would implement enhanced reservations to ensure justice to the tribals who were exploited and oppressed for several decades.

Under this, orders have been issued on Friday evening.

Let us tell you that in order to make Telangana a separate state, K. Chandrashekhar Rao fought a long battle.

The Telangana society under the leadership of KCR Rao made a relentless effort to achieve statehood.

After the formation of the state, the Chief Minister increased the budgetary allocation for the Scheduled Tribes under the sub-plan with the condition that the allocated budget should be spent in the same year.

It also said that the unspent money can be carried over to the next financial year for the same purpose.

The tribals continue to suffer from extreme poverty and backwardness, despite the government taking several welfare measures for the upliftment of the tribals including increasing the tribal residential schools.

This decision of the state government will prove to be a game changer for the socio-economic development of the tribals.
