In yet another unfortunate incident in Jammu and Kashmir, terrorists have struck again, this time targeting a retired Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Baramulla.

The retired officer, identified as Mohammad Shafi, fell victim to the attack when terrorists entered a mosque in Gentmulla, Baramulla, and fatally shot him.

Terrorist Attack In Jammu And Kashmir: Reports indicate that the assailants opened fire on Shafi while he was reciting Azaan inside the mosque.

According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the terrorist attack took place in Gentmulla, Shire Baramulla, resulting in the tragic death of Mohammad Shafi, a retired police officer, during his prayer.

The immediate area has been cordoned off, with the presence of police and army personnel.

Currently, no details about the attackers have been disclosed. However, Shafi’s brother has asserted that the assault was a premeditated act.

It is noteworthy that this assault on a retired Superintendent of Police occurred concurrently with an ongoing search operation conducted by the army in Poonch to apprehend terrorists.

The region had recently witnessed another attack where armed terrorists ambushed two army vehicles in Poonch district, leading to the martyrdom of four soldiers.

Disturbingly, officials reported that the bodies of two of the martyred soldiers were mutilated.

In a poignant turn of events, tributes will be paid to the four martyred soldiers in Dera Gali of Poonch on Sunday, where their last rites will be conducted.

This marks a historic moment as it will be the first time in history that the final rites of the fallen soldiers will be performed at the very location of their martyrdom.

The families of the martyrs have been summoned to bid their last farewells, and high-ranking army officers are expected to be present during the ceremony.

The attack on the retired SSP in Baramulla adds to the escalating tensions in the region, with security forces actively engaged in counter-terrorism operations.

The incidents underscore the persistent challenges faced by the authorities in maintaining peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir amid targeted acts of violence by militants.
