Traumatic incident in Andhra Pradesh: ‘High tension’ wire fell in auto, 5 women died, 2 scorched.

A massive fire broke out in an auto after an electric ‘high-tension’ wire fell on the auto in Andhra Pradesh’s Sathya Sai district on Thursday morning.

Five women agricultural laborers in the vehicle were burnt alive and two others were injured. It is said that the victims are relatives among themselves.

Dharmavaram Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramakanth said over the phone that six people, including the auto driver, jumped out of the vehicle after the fire broke out.

The two injured have been admitted to hospitals in Dharmavaram and Anantapuramu, he said.

Ramkanth said, “A farmer had employed laborers in his field. They were going towards a nearby village in a seven-seater auto. Then the high tension wire broke and fell on the auto and it caught fire.

Five women were burnt alive in this incident, whose age was between 30-35 years, while two others suffered serious burns. The DSP said that the matter is being investigated.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, and Leader of the Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu have expressed grief over this incident.

The Chief Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased.

State General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party S Vishnuvardhan Reddy has also condoled the incident.

Andhra Pradesh: Hundreds of crores ‘missing’ from bank accounts of over 90 thousand government employees

Hundreds of crores of rupees have reportedly ‘disappeared’ from the bank accounts of over 90,000 employees of the Andhra Pradesh government and there are allegations that the money has been withdrawn by the government.

However, the Special Chief Secretary (Finance) has denied the allegation.

It is alleged that the amount was ‘illegally withdrawn’ after it was deposited in the General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts of the employees.

Government employees’ unions took up the matter with the officials of the state finance department here on Wednesday, but the matter could not be clarified.

The unions have termed the ‘illegal withdrawal’ not only unconstitutional but also criminal.

Leaders of Andhra Pradesh Joint Action Committee and Andhra Pradesh Joint Action Committee, Amaravati met Special Chief Secretary (Finance) SS Rawat here today and sought clarification.
