TS Trimurti to chair UN Committee on Counter-Terrorism. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations TS Tirumurti has been given a new responsibility.

In 2022, he will chair the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC). On the eve of assuming the office of this committee.

India had voted in favor of a proposal to renew the mandate of the Executive Directorate of Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTED).

TS Trimurti to chair UN Committee: The resolution was passed by the United Nations Security Council.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) through its written tacit process renewed the mandate of the Executive Directorate until December 31, 2025.

Voting in favor of the renewal proposal of the CTED, India said, “As Chair of the CTC for 2022, India will endeavor to enhance its role in strengthening the multilateral response to counter-terrorism and ensure that the threat of terrorism is addressed.”

“The global response should be clear, undivided, and effective.” The Anti-Terrorism Committee (CTC) was set up in 2001 in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks.

It is noteworthy that India is currently a non-permanent member of the 15-member Security Council, whose two-year term will end on December 31, 2022.
