Amritsar: heroin worth 38 crores was sent from Afghanistan hidden inside broom wood, recovered by DRI at Attari check post.

The consignment of heroin brought from Afghanistan hidden in a broom has been recovered by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). A total of five kg of heroin has been recovered by the DRI.

This consignment was being brought to India through the Integrated Check Post on the Attari border.

The consignment of heroin was being sent by the smugglers by hiding it in four thousand blocks of wood fitted inside the broom.

When the DRI officials came to know about this, an immediate investigation was carried out and the entire consignment was seized.

According to information, information was received from DRI officials that a consignment of heroin was about to be delivered from Afghanistan.

Under this, the department has started its search and a consignment of brooms was stopped.

During the checking by the DRI team, it was found that in a consignment of 4,000 pieces of brooms in 40 bags, heroin was surreptitiously filled with the cane, hollow small pieces of bamboo/sticks.

Whose international price is estimated to be around Rs 38.36 crore? The ends of such sticks were artificially sealed. It was labeled the ‘Afghan broom’.
