Vijay From Kovilpatti lost 14 Members of His Family

Vijay from Kovilpatti loses 14 members of the family in a landslide near Munnar, Kerala. A young man who lost 14 members of his family in a landslide and two women who lost their parents. It has been raining heavily in many parts of Kerala for the last few days. The incessant rains in the Idukki district in particular have caused severe damage. The district is mostly hilly and there were more than 5 landslides last Thursday.

It is feared that more than 30 houses may have been completely damaged and buried in the landslide in the Rajamalai Pettimudi area near Munnar. Up to 80 people in those apartments are said to be missing. The bodies of 43 people have been recovered so far and the search for the remains is ongoing.

All those who worked in the area were from Thoothukudi, Nellai and Tenkasi districts of Tamil Nadu. Most of them are from Kayathar Bharathinagar near Kovilpatti. It has been reported that 14 members of Shanmugaiya’s family were killed in the landslide. Only his wife is being treated for injuries. Shanmugaiah’s son Vijay also survived because he was in Kayastha.

Only 2 of the family of 16 are currently alive. Shanmugaiah has 2 wives, only one of whom is now alive. Vijay is survived by his wife Shanmugaiya, 3 daughters, 3 sons-in-law, 6 grandsons, and 14 granddaughters in a landslide.

Vijay has not been able to visit his family for the past year as he has been working in Goa. He often talks to his family only on the phone. The landslide, which came to Kayathar due to the Corona curfew, has devastated his family and left only trauma.

Vijay said the loss of everyone in the family was heartbreaking and that only 5 bodies had been found so far and the bodies of the deceased could not be identified amidst great difficulty and that his parents’ place of residence was currently at ground level and his parents had left work there and returned to Kayathar. He said that he had lost his life in the landslide while he was claiming to be staying.

He has demanded that the government should help families like himself, accept the education expenses of the children of the victims, and provide jobs to those who are deserving. Murugan, a native of Kayathar Bharathi, is survived by his wife Ramaletsumi and 3 daughters Nishantini, Saranya, and Annaletsumi. Nishantini, who studied nursing in Bangalore, has been living with her parents due to the Corona curfew.

Saranya has been in Rajapalayam for nursing training. Another daughter, Annaletchumi, is staying in her grandfather’s house in Kayathar as she is in the 12th class. Murugan, his wife Ramaletsumi, and eldest daughter Nishanthini were killed in the landslide, while Murugan’s other two daughters Saranya and Annaletsumi are still standing.

Her family was devastated and her parents and sister who went to Kerala could not see her body. The demand of the people of the area is that the Government of Tamil Nadu should help those who have lost their families due to the landslide.
