Violent Clashes Along Assam And Mizoram Border

Violent clashes along with Assam and Mizoram border, Many people injured, Sonowal briefed PMO, Home Ministry meeting today.

There has been a violent clash between the people of Assam and Mizoram, in which many have been reported injured. Tension has arisen at the border of the two states after the incident.

Aizawl police officer said that the situation in the area is currently under control after hours of violent clashes.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has informed the Prime Minister’s Office i.e. PMO and Union Home Ministry about the current situation thereafter this incident.

The clash is reported near the Vairangate village of Kolasib in Mizoram and Lailapur village in Cachar district of Assam. Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla will inquire about the situation in a meeting with the two states on Monday.

Mizoram Home Minister Lalchamliana told that the Chief Secretaries of both the states will also be present in the meeting. Both states have deployed security personnel in the violence-affected areas.

On Saturday evening, some people from Assam allegedly attacked a group near an auto-rickshaw stand located on the outskirts of the border village, said H Lalthalangliana, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Kolasib district.

After this incident, residents of Vairangate village gathered in large numbers. Despite the implementation of Section-144 in the area, an angry mob of Vairangate village set fire to around 20 makeshift huts and shops of people of Lailapur village on National Highway.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police said that several people were injured in the clash which lasted for hours. The condition of a person injured in the clash is critical.

The Assam government has said that the situation is under control. Police have been deployed to maintain peace in the area.

Assam Forest Minister and local MLA Parimal Shukla Baidya said that such incidents have been happening in the area even before. Actually, people of both the states illegally cut down trees during which they clash.

On the instructions of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Baidya inquired about the situation during Lailapur. The Assam government has said that the incident was intended to create unrest in the communities.

Assam Commissioner (Home) Gyanendra Tripathi has assured security to the people.

He also requested to maintain harmony with the people of Mizoram. Cachar Superintendent of Police Bhanwar Lal Meena said that steps are being taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen further.
