Inflation based on the Wholesale Price Index remained in negative territory for the seventh consecutive month in October at (-) 0.52 percent due to the softening of food prices.

In October last year, WPI was at 8.67 percent.

The negative rate of inflation in October 2023 is mainly due to a decline in prices of chemicals and chemical products, electricity, textiles, basic metals, food products, paper and paper products, etc. in comparison to the same month previous year.

WPI for fuel and power has also lowered.

In October, fuel and power inflation was (-) 2.47 percent, down from (-) 3.35 percent in September.

In September, the rate of inflation in manufactured goods was (-) 1.13 percent, down from (-) 1.34 percent in August.

Retail inflation has declined to a five-month low.
