Wholesale Inflation Stood At 10.66 Percent In September

Wholesale inflation stood at 10.66 percent in September, softened compared to August: WPI Inflation.

In comparison to August this year, in September, the common people got relief from retail inflation as well as wholesale inflation.

According to the data released by the government, the wholesale inflation rate on an annual basis in September 2021 stood at 10.66 percent, which was 11.39 percent in August.

This figure shows the moderation in wholesale inflation in September as compared to August.

However, the WPI data for September also shows that WPI remained in double digits for the past six months continuously. In September 2020, the wholesale inflation rate stood at 1.32 percent.

These sectors remained soft in September as compared to August.

In the month of September, the prices of fuel and electricity saw a softening as compared to August. However, on a yearly basis, the rate remained very high.

According to the data released by the government, in September, the prices of fuel and electricity saw an increase of 24.81 percent on a year-on-year basis.

In August, this figure was 26.09 percent. On the other hand, an increase of 11.41 percent was registered in the prices of manufactured products. In August 2021, it was at 11.39 percent.

However, there was a moderation in the inflation rate of food items. On an annual basis, the wholesale inflation in food articles stood at 1.14 percent, as against 3.43 percent in August.

Also got relief on the retail inflation front.

In the month of September, the retail inflation rate came down drastically to 4.35 percent from 5.30 percent in August 2021. This relief came in September due to the fall in the prices of food items.

Retail inflation in food articles declined to 0.68 percent in September from 3.11 percent in August 2021.

The fall in retail inflation in September 2021 was significant as it touched 7.27 percent in September 2020.

In this way, for the third consecutive month in September, the retail inflation rate remained below 6 percent.

It stood at 5.59 percent in July 2021. At the same time, in August 2021, the retail inflation rate stood at 5.30 percent.
