World unrest due to breaking Russia’s food export agreement: What is Foodgrain Export Agreement?

In July, Russia opened a part of the sea to the movement of cargo ships following an agreement between Russia, Ukraine, and Turkey.

But now it is closed again. The agreement reached in July was for 120 days and was to last till November 19. It was expected to continue further. But the attack on the Russian Navy fleet changed the situation.

Due to this agreement, the US and its allies allowed the export of Russian food grains while easing the sanctions on Russia. But now the exemption given to Russia may also end.

EU requests Russia to withdraw the decision

On Sunday, the EU’s foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell said Russia’s decision would lead to food and fertilizer shortages in the world.

Therefore we request Russia reconsider its decision. While US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Russia is weaponizing food grains.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the United Nations and the G20 to give a tough response to Russia.

The crisis will arise due to a breach of the food export agreement

Zelensky said that this move of Russia is going to put the continents of Africa and Asia in trouble. According to Ukraine, about 200 of its ships are currently stranded in the Black Sea.

Most of these are loaded with food grains. Since the agreement in July, Ukraine has so far exported more than 9 million tonnes of food grains.

The US-led military organization NATO has also asked Russia to renegotiate the food export agreement.

It has been said that if this agreement is not continued then there will be a food crisis in the world. That’s why President Putin should stop weaponizing food and also stop the illegal war in Ukraine.
