Amravati massacre: ‘mastermind’ Irfan in police custody till 7 July, bank accounts of accused’s NGO also investigated.

A court in Maharashtra’s Amravati on Sunday sent Irrfan Khan, the alleged ‘conspirator’ in the murder case of chemist Umesh Kolhe, to police custody till July 7.

At the same time, the police are now investigating the bank accounts of that NGO, in which the accused is a director. A senior official gave this information.

Khan (35), a resident of Amravati city, was arrested from Nagpur on Saturday in connection with Kolhe’s murder. So far seven people have been arrested in this case.

The officer said that the accused is the director of a voluntary organization ‘Rahbar’. He said that the police have now started probing his bank accounts.

He said there are parallels between the murders of tailor Kanhaiyalal in Rajasthan’s Udaipur city and chemist Umesh Kolhe (54) in Amravati.

Both of them posted messages on social media in support of the former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office-bearer Nupur Sharma.

Sharma was suspended from the party by the BJP for his remarks about Prophet Muhammad.

Amravati case probe handed over to NIA.

Earlier, the spokesperson of the Union Home Ministry had tweeted that the investigation of the Amaravati case has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

However, Amravati Police Commissioner Dr. Aarti Singh told PTI-language, “So far we have not received any order regarding handing over the investigation of the case to the NIA.

We will receive the order by Monday, after which we will formally hand over the probe to the central agency as procedural formalities take some time.”

NIA is also probing the murder of tailor Kanhaiyalal.

Amid tight security, Khan was questioned by an NIA team at the city’s Kotwali police station on Sunday morning, before being taken to the Amravati District and Sessions Court.

The local court sent Khan to police custody till July 7, the police official said.

Earlier, the police arrested six others, Mudassar Ahmed alias Sonu Raza Sheikh Ibrahim (22), Shahrukh Pathan alias Badshah Hidayat Khan (25), Abdul Tawfiq alias Nanu Sheikh Taslim (24), Shoaib Khan alias Bhurya Sabir Khan (22), Aatib Rashid.

Adil Rashid (22) and Dr. Yusuf Khan Bahadur Khan (44) were arrested in connection with Kolhe’s murder.

An official of the city Kotwali police station said that four of these accused were friends of Irfan Khan and worked for his NGO.

Irfan is accused of conspiring to kill Kolhe, allotting special assignments to other accused, and providing them vehicles and money.

The official said that Yusuf Khan is a veterinary doctor and Kolha had a veterinary medicine shop. He said that there was a business relationship between the two.

Kolhe had formed a group of veterinarians on a social media platform, of which Yusuf Khan was also a member.

Yusuf Khan was arrested on the night of July 1.

“Kolhe had posted messages in a social media group of which Yusuf Khan was also a member,” the official said. Later Yusuf Khan allegedly instigated others to commit the crime.

Police investigation revealed that Yusuf Khan had friendly relations with Kolhe and even attended his funeral. On the basis of technical information, the police arrested Yusuf Khan on Friday night.
