Anshu Malik created history by winning a silver medal, Sarita grabbed the bronze: World Championship.

Haryana’s Anshu Malik lost the final of the World Championships on Thursday and had to be content with a silver medal. Even after this defeat, 19-year-old Anshu managed to make history in 57 kg.

She became the first Indian female wrestler to win a silver medal in this championship.

Earlier, four women wrestlers from India have won medals at the World Championships but all have got bronze medals.

Geeta Phogat won the bronze medal in 2012, Babita Phogat in 2012, Pooja Dhanda in 2018, and Vinesh Phogat in 2019.

Anshu is also the sixth Indian to reach the finals of the World Championships.

Before him, Bishamber Singh (1967), Sushil Kumar (2010), Amit Dahiya (2013), Bajrang Punia (2018), and Deepak Poonia (2019) reached the finals. Of these, only Sushil could win the gold medal.

On the other hand, Sarita Mor, who had upset the world champion, had to face defeat in the semi-finals.

She then played brilliantly in the bronze medal bout and won by 8 points against Sweden’s Sarah Lindborg.

There will be an interesting battle between Deepika, Komalika, and Ankita.

Deepika and Atanu, who returned empty-handed from the World Cup Archery final held in Yangtoon city of America, will now face a challenge.

The recurve archery of the 40th Senior National Archery Championship, which is going on at JRD Tata Sports Complex, will start from Friday.

India had high hopes from Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari but both of them returned empty-handed.

Now both of them could not perform well in the World Cup being played in Yankton, USA.

In the women’s recurve event in Yankton, Ankita Bhakat, Riddhi, and Komalika Bari finished 20th, 26th, and 29th respectively and made it to the second round.

All three got a bye in the first round. In the men’s recurve team event, the Indian team of Salunke Parth Sushant, Aditya Chaudhary, and Atul Verma finished 13th in the qualification.

However, the women archers did not get medals. In the men’s section, Atanu also disappointed the fans.
