Army should be ready to deal in Emergency: Army Chief in J&K. Army Chief General MM Naravane said – Army should be ready to deal with the emergency.

Army Chief General MM Naravane on Wednesday directed the army officers to continue with counter-terrorist operations and always be prepared with a proactive approach to deal with any emergency along the LoC.

He said that the resumption of the border ceasefire along the LoC is welcome, but there is no scope for any laxity. The anti-infiltration mechanism should be continuously reviewed and made chalked out.

He was speaking while reviewing the overall internal and external security scenario of Jammu and Kashmir.

He was in the meeting of senior army officers including GOC-in-C of Northern Command Lt Gen YK Joshi and Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen DP Pandey at Chinar Corps Headquarters here today.

Army Chief General MM Naravane has reached the summer capital Srinagar on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir today.

He has also held a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who went late in the evening, on issues related to security and Covid management.

It is noteworthy that today 100 days have been completed since Pakistan agreed to restore the 2003 border ceasefire agreement on the LoC.

The situation along the LoC has been almost completely calm in the last 100 days. Since February 25, there has been a ceasefire on the LoC from both sides on each other’s bases.

After reaching Srinagar today, the Army Chief along with the GOC-in-C of the Northern Command and the Chinar Corps Commander visited important Army installations located in the interior of the valley.

He took stock of the prevailing security scenario in his jurisdiction after interacting with the local military commanders.

The army officers also apprised him of the strategy adopted for counter-terrorist operations, identifying and dismantling the overground network of terrorists and stopping the recruitment of new boys in terrorist organizations.

Army should be ready to deal in Emergency: During this, issues related to the surrender of local terrorists have also been discussed.

Army Chief General MM Naravane, while interacting with Army officers and jawans, appreciated them for the successful conduct of counter-terrorist operations, thwarting enemy designs along the LoC.

He also praised jawans for supporting the civil administration in dealing with the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic.

During the meeting at the Chinar Corps Headquarters, Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen DP Pandey briefed him in detail about the situation in the LoC and the interior of the valley.

In the meeting, General Naravane, while reviewing the security scenario, the situation along the LoC and counter-terrorism operations, asked them to be prepared to deal with any emergency.

He said that whether the situation along the LoC or terrorist activities inside the valley, we should remain proactive, only then the situation will be completely under control and calm.

He attributed the ever-improving situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the coordination and cooperation between the army, civil administration, JKP,  and other security agencies for the restoration of peace and confidence.

He said that this coordination should be maintained in the future also only then permanent peace will be restored here.

He also directed the army officers to ensure compliance with COVID-19 SOPs and to extend full cooperation to the civil administration in COVID management.

The Army Chief also met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha after attending a security review meeting with Army Commanders.

He discussed the overall security scenario of Jammu and Kashmir with the Lieutenant Governor. During this, the Lt Governor emphasized greater coordination between the Army and other security agencies.

He appreciated the role of the army in maintaining the atmosphere of peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir and thwarting the designs of Pakistan.
