Australia beat England badly in the Brisbane Test, took the lead in the series: The Ashes. 

Australia’s new Test captain Pat Cummins started the Ashes series with a resounding victory. Australia took a 1-0 lead in the series after winning the Brisbane Test by 9 wickets.

England’s second innings were reduced to just 297 runs on the fourth day of the match. Australia had a modest target of 20 runs, which the team achieved by losing 1 wicket.

The hosts Australia started the 5-match Ashes series with a bang. After losing the toss, Cummins gave Australia success on the very first ball while bowling.

After this, giving five wickets to the English team at frequent intervals, the team’s first innings was piled up for just 147 runs.

In reply, Australia made 425 runs in the first innings on the back of Travis Head’s century and took a huge lead of 278 runs.

England got off to a good start in the second innings and at the end of the third day’s play, captain Joe Root was on 86 and David Malan was on 80.

On the fourth day, the Kangaroo bowlers tightened the screws and dashed the hopes of hundreds of these two batsmen. Root was dismissed for 89 while Malan scored 82.

After this, the rest of the batsmen also kept coming and going one by one. Australia won the second innings after scoring 297 runs and scoring 20 runs.

Veteran spinner Nathan Lyon picked up four crucial wickets in the second innings against England to ease Australia’s victory.

On the fourth day of the match, when he got the wicket of Malan, playing on 82, got the team the first success.

The English team disintegrated after the pairing of Root and Malan broke up. Lyon took the wickets of Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, and Mark Wood.

Taking four wickets for 91 runs in 34 overs, this spinner turned the match in the direction of Australia.
