Chargesheet Filed Against Former Maharashtra MLA

Chargesheet filed against former Maharashtra MLA in cooperative bank fraud.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) said on Thursday that a charge sheet has been filed against former Maharashtra MLA Vivekananda Shankar Patil and others in a money laundering case.

All are accused of fraud of over Rs 512 crore from a Panvel-based cooperative bank.

The prosecution has filed the charge sheet in a special court in Mumbai, which is hearing a case filed by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Chargesheet filed against former MLA: Patil, 66, a four-time MLA, was arrested by the agency in the case in June.

The ED had registered the case on the basis of an FIR lodged by the Economic Offenses Wing of Navi Mumbai Police against Patil and about 75 others in February last year.

In the FIR of the Economic Offenses Wing, Patil and others have been accused of irregularities of Rs 512.54 crore in Karnala Nagari Government Bank.

The bank is located at Panvel in Raigad’s neighboring district of Mumbai. Patil, a farmer, and leader of the Kamgar Party is the former chairman of the bank.

Supreme Court to hear after eight weeks on the use of plastic in the election campaign.

The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned for eight weeks the hearing on a petition against the use of plastic, especially banners and hoardings, during elections.

As the central government informed that a draft notification in this regard has been issued.

Justice L. A bench headed by Nageswara Rao took note of the Centre’s submission that a draft notification for banning PVC plastic of fewer than 100 microns has been issued.

Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Centre, said that the draft notification had been issued and objections had been received.

To this, the bench said, “List the matter for hearing after eight weeks.”

We are hopeful and confident that in the meantime the Central Government will proceed to issue appropriate orders and directions after finalizing the objections to the draft notification.
