China’s acknowledgment of India’s defense advancements

In a major acknowledgment of India’s defense advancements, China has officially recognized India’s laser strike capability, placing the country among the select few global powers with such advanced technology. According to Chinese defense analysts, India successfully tested its Integrated Air Defense Weapon System (IADWS) on Saturday, showcasing a powerful combination of surface-to-air missiles and directed energy weapons (DEW).

Military expert Wang Yan’an, editor-in-chief of Beijing-based Aerospace Knowledge magazine, highlighted India’s rapid progress in the field of laser-based air defense systems. He noted that the IADWS is capable of targeting short and medium-range threats, including enemy drones, cruise missiles, helicopters, and low-flying fighter aircraft.

The IADWS integrates several components, including indigenously developed QRSAM missiles, VSHORAD systems, and a high-power laser DEW module. Experts believe this multi-layered defense network strengthens India’s national security and boosts its ability to counter modern aerial threats effectively.

Currently, only seven countries—the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, Germany, Israel, and now India—possess operational directed energy weapon systems. Wang also compared India’s capabilities with China’s LW-30 vehicle-mounted laser weapon, known as a “drone killer,” capable of striking targets at the speed of light, silently, and with high accuracy.
