US President Donald Trump has once again surprised the world by appealing to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to immediately end the ongoing war with Russia.
Trump made a statement on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’ that if Zelensky wants, he can immediately stop this three and a half year old war. Trump clearly said that Ukraine will neither get Crimea back, which was taken over by Russia 12 years ago during Barack Obama’s era, without firing a bullet, nor will Ukraine be allowed to join NATO.
Trump’s statement has come at a time when efforts are being made to end the war between Ukraine and Russia. He advised Zelensky to adopt the path of dialogue with Russia and end this bloody war. Trump believes that some things never change, and he was referring to issues like Crimea and NATO.
Trump Urges Zelensky to End War with Russia: Trump’s tough stand on Crimea and NATO
Trump made it clear in his statement that the issue of Crimea is now outdated. 12 years ago, in 2014, Russia occupied Crimea, and Trump termed it a failure of the Obama administration. He says that now the talk of taking back Crimea is meaningless. Along with this, he also completely ruled out the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO.
Trump’s statement is a big message for Ukraine, because NATO membership has been a long-standing demand of Ukraine. Trump warned Zelensky that it would be better to find a solution through talks instead of prolonging the war.
Zelensky’s reaction to the Trump-Putin meeting
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reacted after the talks between US President Donald Trump and Russian President in Alaska. He praised Trump’s offer to guarantee security to Ukraine for the historic peace agreement.
Along with this, he has made it clear before he meets with Trump at the White House that Ukraine will not compromise on its integrity and sovereignty. And he will be ready to stop the war on his terms. Meanwhile, European countries have also supported Ukraine.
