China’s unilateral attempts to change the status quo on LAC affected bilateral ties: MEA.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in its Annual Report 2021-22 released on Monday said that China’s continued unilateral efforts to change the status quo of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) have affected India-China bilateral relations.

Peace on LAC was disturbed due to China.

As per the Ministry of External Affairs report, since April-May 2020, China has made several attempts to unilaterally change the status quo on the LAC in the western sector, leading to disturbances along the LAC.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that these efforts by China have always received a befitting reply from the Indian Armed Forces.

India’s engagement with China is complex, according to an MEA report prepared by the ministry’s Policy Planning Division.

However, both sides have agreed to manage their differences and not allow differences to become disputes on any issue.

China’s unilateral attempts to change the status quo on LAC: It is essential to preserve peace withinside the border areas.

Furthermore, both sides agreed that pending the final settlement of the boundary question, maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas is an essential basis for the overall development of bilateral relations.

Both sides have agreed to resolve the issues on LAC in Eastern Ladakh through peaceful dialogue.

Consequently, discussions are on with the Chinese side for a complete disengagement from all friction points and full restoration of peace and tranquility in the India-China border areas at the earliest.

According to the MEA, India maintains its engagement with China through both diplomatic and military channels to resolve the outstanding issues at the earliest so that peace and tranquility in the border areas can be restored.

In July 2021, both had met earlier in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on the sidelines of the SCO Foreign Ministers’ meeting.

Military and diplomatic officials from both sides are meeting regularly to continue their discussions to resolve the outstanding issues at the earliest.

Both sides agreed that it was not in the interest of either side to prolong the current situation as it was affecting the relationship in a negative way.
