Former Kerala DGP Sibi Mathew reached the High Court against the order of the lower court

Former Director-General of Police (DGP) of Kerala Sibi Mathew has filed a petition in the Kerala High Court on Friday against the order of the Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court.

The sessions court has fixed the time limit for anticipatory bail in connection with the conspiracy to implicate former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayan and others in the 1994 espionage case.

In his petition, Mathew has alleged that the deadline imposed is in violation of the law laid down by the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court.

“The Supreme Court had held that the order granting bail should not be limited to a fixed period. The anticipatory bail order may continue till the end of the hearing”.

It is pertinent to note that the allegations pertain to the incident which took place in 1994, so the custodial interrogation of the petitioner is not necessary in the investigation of the case, the petition said.

Mathew is the fourth accused in the case.

Other accused in the case include S. Vijayan (Former Circle Inspector), Thampi S. Durgadutt (former sub-inspector), and VR Rajeevan (former police commissioner).

CBI’s investigation caught pace.

At the same time, the recently resumed investigation of the ISRO espionage case seems to be gaining momentum.

The Delhi unit of the CBI has decided to record the statements of both the women arrested on charges of espionage and for this, the officers will soon visit the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
