Defense Ministry signs multi-crore deal with Spain’s Airbus, self-reliant India will get a boost. In a major step towards the modernization of the Indian Air Force’s transport fleet.

The Defense Ministry has signed an agreement with Spanish company Airbus Defense and Space to procure 56 C-295MW military transport aircraft.

These aircraft with a carrying capacity of five to ten tonnes will replace the outdated Avro transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

The Defense Ministry on Friday signed a contract with Airbus for this deal worth about Rs 22,000 crore.

Under this, 16 C-295MW aircraft will be brought to India in a fully ready-to-fly condition.

Whereas to strengthen the campaign of self-reliant India, the Tata consortium will manufacture the remaining 40 aircraft in India along with Airbus Defense.

Along with this purchase agreement, the Defense Ministry has also given a green signal to the joint project of Airbus Defense and Tata Advanced Systems to make C-295 transport aircraft.

Along with the purchase deal, the Defense Ministry has also entered into an offset contract with Airbus Defense Key & Space under which Airbus will procure essential equipment and services from its Indian partners.

Defense Ministry signs multi-crore deal: Cabinet approved the purchase proposal this month.

The Cabinet Committee on Security had earlier this month approved the proposal to procure these 56 transport aircraft for the Air Force.

The purchase of these aircraft is an important defense deal to enhance the transport capability and speed of the Indian Air Force.

Features of C-295MW.

The special feature of the C-295MW transport aircraft is that it has a ramp door at the rear which is perfectly suited for rapid para-dropping of troops or goods.

These planes can easily take off even with a half-full airstrip.

After the arrival of these aircraft, the airlift strategic capability of the Air Force will be greatly strengthened. Especially in the North and Northeast sector as well as Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Tata consortium will be able to sell this aircraft to other countries as well.

All these 56 aircraft will be equipped with an indigenously built Electronic Warfare Suite.

After supplying all the aircraft to the Air Force, the Tata consortium will also be able to sell these aircraft to countries where the Indian government will not have any objection to selling them.

Self-reliant India will get a boost.

With this deal, along with the self-reliant India campaign, the aerospace manufacturing ecosystem in the country will get a boost as many companies from the MSME sector will join the manufacturing of these aircraft components.

India’s private sector will get an opportunity to enter the technically highly competitive aviation industry.

There will be less dependence on imports.

Another aspect of this agreement will also be that increasing domestic aviation manufacturing will reduce excessive dependence on imports.

According to the Defense Ministry, a servicing and repair center for the C-295MW aircraft will also be set up in India before the supply of the aircraft is completed under the deal.

This deal will create employment opportunities. This is expected to create 600 highly skilled jobs directly, over 3,000 indirect jobs, and 3,000 additional medium-skill jobs.

Ratan Tata told important step.

Ratan Tata, Honorary Chairman of Tata Sons, tweeted and congratulated the Ministry of Defense and Tata Advanced Systems on this agreement.

He said that the approval of the joint project established between Airbus Defense and Tata to manufacture the aircraft is a huge step towards opening up opportunities for aviation and avionics projects in India.

He said that this is the first project of its kind in which military aircraft will be manufactured in India by a private company.
