Congress MLA Arrested From Home For Provocative Remarks

Congress MLA trapped by giving provocative remarks was arrested from home.

Sherman Ali Ahmed was arrested by the police from his house for allegedly making provocative remarks in Assam’s Darang district in reference to last week’s violent eviction drive.

The  MLA  is accused of making provocative statements regarding the eviction campaign.

A day earlier, Congress had issued a show-cause notice against the MLA. Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed was taken into custody on Saturday.

A senior official said that Ahmed was taken into custody from the MLA quarter in Dispur and brought to the Panbazar police station for questioning.

“We have taken him into custody for questioning,” he said. Any decision on his arrest will be taken at an appropriate time.

Several organizations including the All Assam Students Union (AASU), Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) have filed complaints against the MLA for his remarks.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee also issued a show-cause notice on Friday for communally provocative remarks made by the MLA ahead of the bypolls in the state and sought his reply in 3 days.

Sherman Ali Ahamed, the MLA from Bagbor, justified the killing of eight people in Darrang district 40 years ago and called the eight people seen in Assamese society as martyrs of the movement as murderers.

Congress MLA trapped by giving provocative remarks: Congress issued a show-cause notice against the MLA alleging that he wanted to tarnish the image of the party ahead of the by-Polls in state.

It also said that the insensitive statements made by Sherman Ali have a great tendency to destroy the social harmony of the state.

On September 20, officials of Darang district had started eviction operations at four places in Dholpur, about 9 km from Sipajhar. Around 800 families were removed from 4,500 bighas of land in Bhiyan.
