Displaced Kashmiri Pandits Will Get Their Ancestral Property Back

Displaced Kashmiri Pandits will get their ancestral property back, the government took this big step.

Displaced Kashmiri Pandits, who were forced to leave the Valley due to terrorist violence in the last decade of the last century, will now be able to get back their ancestral properties.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has started a fresh effort for this. Under this, a complaint portal has been prepared.

On this, displaced Kashmiris residing anywhere in the country and abroad will be able to file a complaint of possession of their property or forcibly being bought at cheap prices.

After the investigation of the complaint, their property will be returned within a stipulated time frame.

The government took the lead.

A senior official associated with the matter said that when lakhs of Kashmiris were forced to flee their homes due to terror threats.

It was the responsibility of the government to keep their properties safe but the government failed in this. Their houses, shops, and immovable properties were confiscated.

Later those properties were bought by intimidating the displaced at throwaway prices.

The senior official said that now the government has taken the initiative to return such immovable properties of the displaced.

Present address to be mentioned with your name.

The senior official said that earlier in 1997, a law was made in Jammu and Kashmir for the protection and return of immovable property of the displaced but under it.

The complainant himself had to go to the District Magistrate and complain to him by giving proof of forcible possession of the property, had to fight to get back.

In the absence of the support of the administration, not a single displaced person was given his property back by this law.

The senior official said that once on the portal, you will have to mention your name along with your current address.

This is how the action will start.

Along with this, it will also have to be told in which village, district, or tehsil his ancestral property is located.

After registering the complaint, the District Magistrate of the concerned district himself will contact the complainant over email or phone and initiate action to get them back.

He said that in many cases the property may be in the name of the father, grandfather, great-grandfather, or another relative.

The facility of giving this information has also been given in the portal.

Along with personal property, one can also complain about the forcible occupation of religious and community properties on the portal.

In what circumstances will the property be sold?

The displaced would be given an opportunity to state the circumstances under which they had to sell their property.

If the claims of the complainant are found to be true, the administration will take back the property and return it to the original owner.

In case the property is sold cheaply, the buyer will also be paid the amount of the purchase.

There was opposition to settling the colony.

The talk of returning home of Kashmiri migrants has been going on for a long time, but for the first time, the matter of returning their ancestral properties has come to the fore.

Earlier, there was talk of setting up a separate colony for Kashmiri migrants.

But this was opposed on the ground that keeping the returnees within a boundary wall would defeat the original purpose of the return.
