Dominic Thiem wins first Grand Slam title, beats Zverev. In the final of the US Open 2020 Men’s Singles, Dominic Thiem of Austria won the US Open by defeating Alexander Zverev of Germany. Also Dominic Thiem has won his first Grand Slam.

At the same time, after a long time the US Open has got a new Grand Slam champion. Thiem had played the Grand Slam final three times before but failed to win the title. Sunday, September 13 saw a thrilling final of the US Open 2020 between Thiem and Zverev at the Arthur Ash Stadium.

In the match which lasted 5 sets, the first two sets were won by Alexander Zverev, while the last three sets were won by Thiem and he became the Grand Slam champion. Dominic Thiem defeated Alexander Zverev 6-4, 6-3 and 7-6 after losing the first 6-2 and 6-4.

This match went on for a long time. Dominic Thiem was the first Austrian player to play a final of the US Open, who also created history for the country by naming the title. Before this, Thiim had reached the final of the Grand Slam three times, but could never become Grand Slam champion.

He had to face Rafael Nadal in the final of the French Open in 2018 and 2019, while earlier this year he was defeated by the number one Serbian player Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final.
