Tamil Nadu’s hope rests on Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for Brahmin brides, more than 40 thousand youths are not getting a life partner

With over 40,000 young Tamil Brahmins in Tamil Nadu finding it difficult to find brides within the state, the Tamil Nadu-based Brahmin Union has launched a special drive to search for Brahmin brides in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

N Narayanan, president of the Thamijanadu Brahmin Association (Thambras), said in an open letter published in the November issue of the association’s monthly Tamil magazine, “We have started a special movement on behalf of our Sangam.”

Citing rough estimates, Narayanan said that over 40,000 Tamil Brahmin men in the 30-40 age group could not marry because they were unable to find brides for themselves within Tamil Nadu.

Giving approximate figures, he said, “If there are 10 Brahmin boys in the marriageable age group in Tamil Nadu, then only six girls are available in this age group.”

The association chief said in his letter that coordinators would be appointed in Delhi, Lucknow, and Patna to take this initiative forward.

Narayanan said a person capable of reading, writing, and speaking Hindi would be deputed to play the role of coordination at the association’s headquarters here.
