Fire at Bone and Joint Hospital in Srinagar, three blocks damaged completely; All patients and relatives were evacuated safely.

Panic erupted at Bone and Joint Hospital Barjula on Friday when an operation theater suddenly burst into flames.

Three blocks of the hospital premises were completely damaged in the fire that continued till late at night.

All the patients and attendants were safely evacuated to other hospitals. Meanwhile, the state administration has issued orders for an inquiry.

Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu, District SSP Rakesh Balwal, and senior health department officials were present at the spot till late in the night.

A hospital worker said the flames were first noticed at 9.30 pm in the operation theater complex itself.

Before the flames could be extinguished, the fire engulfed the adjoining trauma and recovery room.

Many patients were picked up by their relatives themselves and started taking them out.

As soon as the information was received, firefighters and police also reached the spot. While trying to douse the fire, they pulled out several patients and their relatives trapped inside.

During this, several cylinders also exploded strongly. It is being told that about 150 patients were admitted to the hospital.

The evacuated patients have been taken to JVC Bemina, SMHS Hospital, Gausia Hospital, and Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura. The cause of the fire could not be immediately confirmed.

According to the police officer, it is possible that there may have been a short circuit in the power wire in the operation theatre, and the fire broke out.
