General MM Narwane Said Fight Against Terrorism Will Continue

General MM Narwane said the fight against terrorism will continue: Indo-Pak ceasefire contributed to bringing peace.

Army Chief General MM Narwane has said that the ceasefire between India and Pakistani troops on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir three months ago has contributed to the feeling of peace and security.

He termed it as the first step in a long way to normalize relations between the two countries. Narwane also said in a detailed interview that this does not mean that India’s fight against terrorism has come to a halt.

There is no reason to believe that the Pakistani military has demolished terrorist structures connected to the Line of Control.

The army chief said, this first step of the long way to normalize relations

“The path of infiltration efforts and reduction in terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir is very long so that India can be assured that Pakistan wants to be a good neighbor,” he said.

“Adherence to the ceasefire agreement has certainly brought a sense of peace and security in the region,” he said.

India and Pakistan agreed on February 25 to abide by all ceasefire agreements on the Line of Control and in other areas.

This does not mean that our fight against terrorism has stopped.

Referring to the US administration’s decision to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan by September 11, the army chief said, whether his inability or unwillingness, are both equally dangerous and worrying.

Referring to the ceasefire, Gen Naravane said that there was not a single incident of cross-border shelling by both armies after the agreement came into force, although there was one incident involving Pakistani Rangers in the Jammu sector.

He said, this year we have seen a drastic reduction in the level of violence in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces and other government agencies are working to maintain pressure on terrorist groups.
